Sharing Metainformation to Guide Cooperative Search Among Heterogeneous Reusable Agents

چکیده
A reusable agent is a self contained computational system that implements some speci c expertise and that can be embedded into diverse applications requiring that expertise Systems composed of heterogeneous reusable agents are potentially highly adaptable maintainable and a ordable assuming that integration issues such as in formation sharing coordination and con ict management can be e ectively addressed In this article we investigate the e ectiveness of sharing meta level search information to improve system performance speci cally with respect to how sharing a ects the quality of solutions and the runtime e ciency of a reusable agent system We rst give a formal description of shareable meta information in systems where agents have private knowledge and databases and where agents are speci cally in tended to be reusable We then present experimental results from a mechanical design system for steam condensers that demonstrate performance improvements related to information sharing and assimilation Finally we discuss the practical bene ts and limitations of information sharing in application systems comprising heterogeneous reusable agents Issues of pragmatic interest include determining what types of infor mation can realistically be shared and determining when the costs of sharing outweigh

Information Sharing among Heterogeneous Reusable Agents in Cooperative Distributed Search
Information sharing among heterogeneou~ ~geusable agents in cooperative distributed search systems can greatly affect the quality of solutions and the runtime efficiency of the system. In this paper, we first give a formal description of shareable information in systems where agents have private knowledge and databases and where agents are specifically intended to be reusable. We then present e...
متن کاملCustomizing Distributed Search Among Agents with Heterogeneous Knowledge
Negotiated search a paradigm for cooperative search and con ict resolution among heterogeneous reusable expert agents has been implemented in a exible frame work TEAM We present negotiated search and discuss the use of customized negotiated search strategies that take advantage of speci c capabilities and relationships that exist in an agent set Strategies are dynamically selected based on the ...
متن کاملCooperative searching for stochastic targets
Spatial search problems abound in the real world, from locating hidden nuclear or chemical sources to finding skiers after an avalanche. We exemplify the formalism and solution for spatial searches involving two agents that may or may not choose to share information during a search. For certain classes of tasks, sharing information between multiple searchers makes cooperative searching advantag...
متن کاملOrganizing cooperative search among heterogeneous expert agents
We present negotiated search, a paradigm for cooperative search and conflict resolution among loosely-coupled expert agents. The paradigm is realized in TEAM, a framework that provides a flexible environment for agent integration. TEAM enables agents with heterogeneous characteristics and capabilities to work together cooperatively. Experimental results from a design application program impleme...

In our research we explore the role of negotia tion for con ict resolution in distributed search among heterogeneous and reusable agents We present negotiated search an algorithm that ex plicitly recognizes and exploits con ict to direct search activity across a set of agents In nego tiated search loosely coupled agents interleave the tasks of local search for a solution to some subproblem inte...
